Therapy for Anxiety in NYC

Therapy for anxiety with Dr. Rose Miller, PhD, in person in NYC or virtually across New York State.

What anxiety looks like

Anxiety looks different for everyone. But for many, your mind runs worst-case scenarios on a loop, you replay conversations long after they’re over, or you avoid things that matter because the dread feels bigger than the task itself.

What’s underneath

At core, anxiety is your brain trying to keep you safe. It tends to overestimate danger and underestimate your ability to cope, and avoidance, overthinking, and reassurance-seeking keep the cycle going.

How I work with anxiety

I use a mix of exposure-based and cognitive behavioral therapy to treat anxiety symptoms. We notice the thoughts that fuel the worry, test them against what’s actually happening, and gradually face what you’ve been avoiding so your body learns it can handle it. When necessary, we will work together to match you with a psychiatrist for medication management.

What changes

The worry gets quieter and loses its grip, you stop building your life around avoiding discomfort, and you trust yourself to handle whatever comes up.

What is CBT?

Anxiety tells you that if you think through every possibility, you’ll be ready for anything. CBT helps you catch those thoughts, question them, and practice new ways of responding, so you can act on what matters instead of what you fear.
