Therapy for Depression in NYC
Therapy for depression with Dr. Rose Miller, PhD, in person in NYC or virtually across New York State.
What depression looks like
There is no one way that depression looks. For some, depression is experienced as a general sense of discontentment, or just a chronic sense of "blah." For others, getting out of bed might feel like an insurmountable task, things you used to love feel flat, and you cancel plans because even small things feel like too much.
What’s underneath
Depression is does not have a single cause. It’s often a mix of stress, loss, unmet needs, biology, and patterns of withdrawal that keep the low mood going.
How I work with depression
First, we establish a baseline to understand what is managable for you. We work with a medical team, as needed, to ensure that if medications are part of your treatment, they are properly adminstered and supervised. When appropriate, I use behavioral activation to break depressive habits. We schedule small, do-able activities tied to what matters to you, because action often comes before motivation, not after. When necessary, we will work together to match you with a psychiatrist for medication management.
What changes
You feel more like yourself, you have tools for when the low mood creeps back, and you have a clearer sense of what makes life feel worth showing up for.
What is behavioral activation?
Depression tells you to hide until you feel ready, or that if you could just fix a problem in your mind, you’d feel better. Behavioral activation flips that: we pick one small, meaningful thing, do it anyway, and let your brain catch up.
